Updesh ("we" or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data when you use the Updesh: Bhagavad Gita application ("the App") or the Updesh website (together, the "Services").

The Short Version

We collect no personal data. No analytics SDKs. No advertising. No tracking. No account creation required. Your reading progress, bookmarks, and notes stay on your device, in your browser, or in your private iCloud account.

Information We Do Not Collect

The App does not collect, store, or transmit:

• Names, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information
• Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or fingerprints
• Location data
• Usage analytics or behavioral data
• Contacts, photos, or any other device data

We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.

Data Stored on Your Device

The App stores the following data locally on your device:

• Reading progress: Which verses and chapters you have read
• Bookmarks: Verses you have bookmarked
• Notes: Personal notes you have written
• Reading streak: Your daily reading streak count
• Preferences: Font size, display language, theme, notification settings
• Downloaded audio: Sanskrit audio files cached for offline playback

This data is stored solely on your device and is not accessible to us.

Using the Website

When you use the Gita reader on this website, your bookmarks, private notes, reading progress, recent verses, language, and display preferences are saved in your browser’s local storage. This information is not transmitted to Updesh and is not synced to the App. You can remove it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

iCloud Sync

If you have iCloud enabled on your device, the App may sync your reading progress, bookmarks, and notes across your Apple devices using Apple's CloudKit service. This data is stored in your private iCloud account and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

Audio Content

When you play a verse's audio in the App or on the website, your device requests the audio file from our server (hosted on Cloudflare). These requests are standard HTTPS requests. We do not log, track, or store any information about these requests beyond what is standard for content delivery (e.g., Cloudflare's standard infrastructure logs, which are not used for tracking and are automatically deleted).

Children's Privacy

The App does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The App is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages.

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Apple CloudKit: For optional iCloud sync of user data (governed by Apple's Privacy Policy)
• Cloudflare: For hosting and delivering audio content files
• Google Fonts: For delivering the website's typefaces (governed by Google's Privacy Policy)

No other third-party services, SDKs, or APIs are used.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
